Creation Science and Evolution – Biology – Living Fossil – Animals and Plants that Forgot to Evolve
Table of Contents
Overview
Living Fossils are animals that are considered by Evolutionists to have existed millions of years ago, and still exist today with only minor changes, if at all, to their phylogeny.
Many people ask why don’t we see dinosaurs walking the earth today if man walked with dinosaurs; however they are overlooking an even more important fact, we are currently walking with creatures OLDER than dinosaurs according to the evolutionary timescale!
Problems for Evolution
For those that believe in a Darwinian Evolutionary timescale, living fossils pose a major problem. Living fossils directly contradict the theory that animals evolved over millions of years from one kind of animal to another kind. These animals provide direct evidence that animals do not evolve on some imaginary timescale of evolution, since they exist today unchanged from those found in the theoretical fossil record.
Another problem for the evolutionists is the fact that all living fossils are just as complex as all other living organisms today. They thrive in current environments just as well as ‘more recently evolved’ animals, thus eliminating the need for any evolution to have ever taken place. Each of their systems and organs are just as complex and in some cases more complex then the systems of other, supposedly more recently evolved, animals.
Living fossils are a direct evidence for young earth creationism, as these creatures have all been alive on the earth for only a few thousand years, not hundreds of millions of years. This evidence shows that all organisms have micro evolutionary variations as they vary slightly from their parents; however no creature is able to evolve into another type or kind of animal. Every creature is limited by the genetic information that they were created with from the beginning of their ancestry.
We find additional issues in the Darwinian evolutionary theory as all creatures found throughout the various evolutionary timescale are fully developed and function in accord with their environments. Their biology is no less inferior to the biology of animals today.
Living Fossils

The following is a small list of the thousands of living fossils that exist today reaching back hundreds to billions of years according to the evolutionary timescale.
Cyanobacteria
Cyanobacteria is considered to be one of the oldest living fossils on the evolutionary timescale. Dating back to 3.5 Billion years ago, these bacteria still live today across the world today.
Ctenophores
The comb jelly, that appear as striped jelly blobs that move through the sea using their cilia, are believed to have emerged 700 million years ago.
Horseshoe Crabs
These creatures can be found today at the bottom of the ocean floors crawling around muddy waters in Japan and North America. According to the evolutionary time scale, they emerged in the Ordovician period over a supposed 450 million years ago. They appear as crustaceans but are part of the Chelicerata subphylum.
Coelacanth – Lobe Finned Fish
These lobe finned fish dates back to 350 Million years ago according to the evolutionary time scale and where believed to have gone extinct 60 – 80 million years ago. They where once considered a missing link between fish and amphibians and where an index fossil but where rediscovered in 1938 of the coast of South Africa.
Elephant Shark
Living off the coasts of Australia and New Zealand are the elephant sharks or the Callorhinchus Milii, a group of cartilaginous fish known as chimeras. Scientists have mapped their genome and have discovered they are relatively unchanged for over 420 million years, and date back to the Triassic period according to the evolutionary time scale.

Snakes
Snakes have been around since the Jurassic period according to the evolutionary time scale between 150-200 million years ago.
Lizards
Snakes have been around since the Jurassic period according to the evolutionary time scale between 150-200 million years ago.
Purple Frog
Snakes have been around since the Jurassic period according to the evolutionary time scale between 150-200 million years ago. The purple frog was thought to have lived 120 million years ago however was rediscovered.
Crocodiles
Crocodiles have not changed for over 200 million years according to the evolutionary time scale. Researchers from the University of Bristol found that crocodiles have kept their distinct features for what they believe to be over millions of years.

Platypus
The platypus is the duck billed aquatic mammal that appears in the evolutionary time scale 150 million years ago. They do not predate the earliest mammals, yet somehow have features found in the reptilian and avian families, again going against evolutionary phylogeny.
Jurassic Squirrel
Ancestors to squirrels and those who were the genetic parents of modern-day squirrels that existed 200 million years ago according to the evolutionary time scale. According to scientists these creatures looked similar to squirrels.

Living Fossils – Plants
The list of living fossils doesn’t end with the animal kingdom, but extends into all areas of biology. These plants supposedly existed hundreds of millions of years ago, however exist today unchanged or with only slight genetic variations.
- Algae – over 1 billion years
- Liverworts – 470 million years
- Ginko Biloba – 200 million years
- Cycad – 280 million years
- Ferns – 160 million years ago
- Dutchman’s Pipe – 142 – 65 million years
- Black pepper – 145 – 100 million years
