OCEANOGRAPHY
The bible speaks of the “paths of the sea” (Psalms 8.8) pointing to the fact that the seas have large underwater circuits. They move the waters based on ocean temperatures, winds and the earth’s rotations. This is another amazing scientific fact that has been reaffirmed by multiple scientists and explores over the centuries.
Matthew Maury (1806-1873) a Christian and scientist considered to be a great oceanographer and explorer learned of this verse and set out in a search to find its meaning.
Matthew’s studies lead him to reaffirm the bibles statements about ocean currents and the “paths” of currents under the seas. He studied their speed and direction, and eventually charted many of his finding for marine navigation.
Major Ocean Currents

How do the Currents in the Ocean Form
Ocean Currents flow on the surface of the ocean where they are shallow, or they may flow far deeper below the surface.
Ocean currents are typically set in motion by the wind. The rotation of the earth moves the ocean currents clockwise in the Northern Hemisphere and counter clockwise in the Southern Hemisphere. In places where deeper currents flow below surface currents, the deeper ones flow in the opposite direction of the surface ones.
Many currents flow along the Equator in the Pacific, Atlantic and Indian oceans because they are near the equator these currents carry warm water. Typically when these currents reach a continent, they split into two with one current going north and the other going south. The waters cool the further they move away from the equator. When it returns to the Equator, in either a clockwise or counter clockwise rotation, it becomes a cold current.
