Overview
Romans Road to salvation is a quick reference to the entire gospel plan of salvation using only the book of Romans. Romans Road to Salvation was originally preached by Dr. Jack Hyles, a leading figure in the Independent Baptist movement, at the First Baptist Church of Hammond in Indiana on Sunday morning June 28th, 1970. He used specific verses to point out Gods plan of salvation like a roadmap and since that time it has been used as an evangelistic tool for teaching people. It is a great reference tool for all believers to use when sharing God’s plan of salvation to young Christians or non-believers.
The Problem
First we are shown that we are all sinners and have come short of the glory of God, we are guilty sinners who have sinned against a Holy and just God. However through grace God also offers us redemption.
for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and all are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus – Romans 3.23
As it is written, there is none righteous, no, not one: There is none that understands, There is none that seeks after God. They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; There is none that doeth good, no, not one. Their throat is an open sepulcher; With their tongues they have used deceit; The poison of asps is under their lips: Whose mouth is full of cursing and bitterness: Their feet are swift to shed blood: Destruction and misery are in their ways: And the way of peace have they not known: There is no fear of God before their eyes. – Romans 3.10-18
The Consequences
The Bible teaches us what the consequences are for sin, that we will die and be eternally separated from God. However God offers the free gift of life in Christ.
God demonstrated His love for us, even though we were sinner Christ died for us. Eternal life is a free gift from God for those who are in Christ.
For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. – Rom 6.23
The Solution
God created a solution for the problem of Sin. He freely gives eternal life for those who turn to Him and calls on His name with a believing heart.
Everyone who calls out to the Lord for help will be saved – Romans 10.13
If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved – Romans 10.9
The Results – A Changed Life
The result of coming to God with a heart of belief is a restored relationship for the rest of your life on earth and forever in heaven. We live a life that is no longer according to our sinful nature but Gods nature in the Spirit. We have become crucified with Christ.
Therefore, since we are justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have obtained access to this grace in which we stand; and we boast in our hope of sharing the glory of God. And not only that, but we also boast in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, and hope does not disappoint us, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit that has been given to us. – Romans 5.1-5
For we know that our old self was crucified with him so that the body ruled by sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves to sin – Romans 6.6
Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, 2 because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit who gives life has set you free from the law of sin and death. 3 For what the law was powerless to do because it was weakened by the flesh, God did by sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh to be a sin offering. And so he condemned sin in the flesh, 4 in order that the righteous requirement of the law might be fully met in us, who do not live according to the flesh but according to the Spirit – Romans 8.1,5
Assurance for our Salvation
For those who have truly been born again spiritually, and have believed, their salvation is secure in Christ and nothing can separate you from God.
For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, 39 neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord – Romans 8.38-39
