Study of the Spiritual Beings and the Spiritual World

Table of Contents
Overview
The Bible very clearly describes a supernatural or spiritual world that is either very close or interacts consistently with the natural (physical) world. In facts the laws of quantum physics may very well be pointing to these external dimensions that point to a ‘super’ or ‘hyper’ natural – spatial position (place), when we consider them from different perspectives in science;

Superstitions
A superstition is simply a belief in something that is not true, typically accompanied by some type of delusion. God forbid such superstitions in the Bible because they where a form of deceit that led people astray form the truth, and even worse, in many cases into idolatry.
– Ezekiel 13.6-8
Here God is rebuking false prophets for leading His people astray. We can see the ‘superstitions’ of the people as they follow lies.
This is what the Lord has said: Do not go in the way of the nations; have no fear of the signs of heaven, for the nations go in fear of them. 3. For that which is feared by the people is foolish: it is the work of the hands of the workman; for a tree is cut down by him out of the woods with his axe
– Jeremiah 10.2-3
Here God is telling His people not to fear the stars or planets because they are only created objects, they should fear God alone who has the power over all things. Superstitions where simply human beliefs without any bases on truth or evidence, and had no bearing on reality. Superstitions are delusions, they are completely different from the power of God or from witchcraft.
3 Types of belief systems on Earth:
God’s Power – This is God’s revealed truth to mankind, and direction for them to live by.
Superstitions – This is either a man’s made-up beliefs, or a deceitful system conjured up by something that leads men astray.
Satan’s Power – Also known as witchcraft; people following the power of the devil or demons because they are deceived or because they pursuing some sort of gain.
Spiritual Beings
All known living beings are creations of God that to some degree exist and have an eternal spiritual form according to scripture. We see that in the Bible, man has the breath of God ‘breathed into him’ (Gen 2.7) and that both man and beast have spirits (Ecc 3.21). The Bible teaches us that all living organisms breath the breath of life given by God, this is the spirit and together with its living body, a living being is a soul.
Some would describe spiritual beings as not having any type of form, as they do not have physical bodies; but all throughout scripture both good and evil spiritual beings are portrayed as having a body and form of some type or another.
Anthropology – Humans
Humans are both physical and spiritual beings. God created mankind with the purpose of ruling over the Earth, oversee it and care for it. Even though mankind lost his relationship with God by sinning and spiritually dying, God provided a perfect plan to give those whom are ‘willing to come to Him,’ the free gift of eternal salvation:
Angelology
Angelology is the study of angels. The term angel as used in the Bible is a very vague term, and refers to quite a variety of different kinds of beings. In fact it would almost seem as though most spiritual beings that exist on the supernatural level are referred to as angels.
Holy (Godly) Angels

There are many visions of heaven given to the prophets and men of God whom see many different types of beings around the throne of God, and specifically a few descriptions of them are given in detail.
Seraphim
Seraphim appear to be ministering angels next to the throne of God. They have 3 sets of wings, 2 to cover their feet, 2 to cover their faces, and with 2 they fly. They continually sing praises to God. The Prophet Isaiah had seen these angels before the throne of God. They are described as the following:
Above Him (God) stood the seraphim: each one had six wings; with twain he covered his face, and with twain he covered his feet, and with twain he did fly. – Isaiah 6.2
Then in the following verses we can see a few of their duties or works they attend to in heaven, worshiping God and attending to the alter or as associated with it:
And one cried unto another, and said, Holy, holy, holy, is The LORD of hosts: the whole Earth is full of his glory. – Isaiah 6:3
Then flew one of the seraphim unto me, having a live coal in his hand, which he had taken with the tongs from off the altar: and he touched my mouth with it, and said, Lo, this hath touched thy lips; and thine iniquity is taken away, and thy sin forgiven. – Isaiah 6:7
Cherubim
These creatures are described in detail, only in reference to Lucifer, however it can be inferred there are many Cherubim that probably possess similar qualities. Apparently the devil, or Lucifer was one of these types of angels before he fell away from God.

You were in Eden, the garden of God; every stone of great price was your clothing, the sardius, the topaz, and the diamond, the beryl, the onyx, and the jasper, the emerald and the carbuncle: your store-houses were full of gold, and things of great price were in you; in the day when you were made they were got ready. 14. You were the anointed Cherub that covers; I put you on the mountain of God; you went up and down among the stones of fire. – Ezekiel 28.13-14
You have done evil: so I sent you out shamed from the mountain of God; the winged one put an end to you from among the stones of fire. – Ezekiel 28.16
A few of their duties are described in various verses, and the specific duties of Lucifer are also described but it is not known if these duties refer to all Cherubim, or it was a special honor held by Lucifer alone, specifically as the ‘Anointed Cherub that covers.’
Cherubim where used to depict the angels that covered the ‘Mercy Seat’ on the top of the ‘Ark Of The Covenant,’ and to decorate many of the articles of furnishing for the temple of Jerusalem, each was meant to be a shadow or representation of the things of heaven. This would seem to depict that God’s throne is covered by the Cherubim.
So he drove out the man; and he placed at the east of the garden of Eden the Cherubim, and the flame of a sword which turned every way, to keep the way of the tree of life. – Genesis 3.24
Ezekiel chapter 10 gives a very detailed description of the cherubim and the visions of heaven associated with the ‘wheels.’ King David sung a hymn about God’s deliverance for him, and describes God riding on a Cherub.
He rode on a cherub and flew; he was seen on the wings of the wind. – 2 Samuel 2.22
Archangels
The archangel Michael is specifically the only archangel mentioned in the Bible. He is described as a prince of angels and the guardian of Israel. His name means ‘Who is like God.” The Archangel Michael is described as having quite a few difficult jobs and encountering war with various degrees of evil spiritual opposition. In the book of Daniel he was delayed by the spiritual ‘prince of Persia’ and was on his way to fight the ‘Prince of Greece.’ In the book of Jude he is depicted fighting and disputing with the Devil of the body of Moses
But the prince of the kingdom of Persia withstood me one and twenty days; but, lo, Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me: and I remained there with the kings of Persia. – Daniel 10.13
But I am going back to make war with the angel of Persia, and when I am gone, the angel of Greece will come. And there is no one on my side against these, but Michael, your angel. – Daniel 10.21
But Michael the archangel, when contending with the devil he disputed about the body of Moses, durst not bring against him a railing judgment, but said, The Lord rebuke thee. – Jude 1.9
And there was war in heaven: Michael and his angels going forth to war with the dragon; and the dragon warred and his angels; – Revelations 12.9
The Living Creatures
The Living Creatures are depicted in the Bible in the image, or symbolically looking like, different types of animals that we see on the earth.
And the first beast was like a lion, and the second like an ox, and the third had a face like a man, and the fourth was like an eagle in flight. 8. And the four beasts, having every one of them six wings, are full of eyes round about and inside: and without resting day and night, they say, Holy, holy, holy, Lord God, Ruler of all, who was and is and is to come. 9. And when the beasts give glory and honor to him who is seated on the high seat, to him who is living forever and ever, – Revelation 4.7-9
Angels Objectives

They Help Believers
Are they not all helping spirits, who are sent out as servants to those whose heritage will be salvation? – Hebrews 1.14
They Minister to Believers
Then the devil left him, and behold, angels came and were ministering to him. – Matthew 4.11
They Protect Gods People
he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways. – Psalms 91.11
They Watch Over Children
“See that you do not despise one of these little ones. For I tell you that in heaven their angels always see the face of my Father who is in heaven. – Matthew 13.2
They Patrol the Earth
So the man who was standing among the myrtle trees answered, ‘These are they whom the Lord has sent to patrol the Earth.’ – Zech 1.10
They Help Spread the Service of God
Of the angels he says, “He makes his angels winds, and his ministers a flame of fire.” – Hebrew 1.7
They Worship God
And again, when he brings the firstborn into the world, he says, “Let all God’s angels worship him.” – Hebrews 1.6
Angelic Encounters
When people in the Bible encounter angelic beings, they typically associate the encounter with power and trembling in fear because of the power they reveal.
I went down on my face to give worship at the feet of the angel who made these things clear to me. 9. And he said to me, See you do it not; – Revelation 22.8-9
This is not always the case. We find instances in the Bibl where people did encounter spiritual beings from God and did not know it until later.
Then the woman came in, and said to her husband, A man came to me, and his form was like the form of a god, causing great fear; I put no question to him about where he came from, and he did not give me his name; – Judges 13.6
And Manoah said to the angel of the Lord, Now let us keep you while we make ready a young goat for you. Jdg 13:16 And the angel of the Lord said to Manoah, Though you keep me I will not take of your food; but if you will make a burned offering, let it be offered to the Lord. For it had not come into Manoah’s mind that he was the angel of the Lord. – Judges 13.15-16
If someone has an angelic encounter we know that God tells us to test the spirits and see if the things they reveal are in line with Gods revealed word, because there are many deceiving spirits in the world.
My loved ones, do not put your faith in every spirit, but put them to the test, to see if they are from God: because a great number of false prophets have gone out into the world. – 1 John 4.1
We know that we still have angelic encounters today, and God even warns us to watch our conduct for we do not know when we will entertain them!
Take care to keep open house: because in this way some have had angels as their guests, without being conscious of it. – Hebrews 13.2
Sons of God
The sons of God are specifically mentioned in the Bible, and would seem to be in a somewhat different classification of being then other types of angels. They are described as having the ability to have sexual relationships with women, and produce unnatural offspring. They must to some degree, be physical beings as well as spiritual because they are described as having bodies in the book of Jude; as it describes, you cannot go after ‘strange’ flesh if you do not have flesh of your own.
The sons of God saw that the daughters of men were fair; and they took wives for themselves from those who were pleasing to them. – Genesis 6.2
And angels that kept not their own principality (place or rank), but left their proper habitation, he hath kept in everlasting bonds under darkness unto the judgment of the great day. 7. Even as Sodom and Gomorrah, and the cities about them, having in like manner with these given themselves over to fornication and gone after strange flesh, are set forth as an example, suffering the punishment of eternal fire. – Jude 1.6-7
Their Offspring
There were men of great strength and size on the Earth in those days; and after that, when the sons of God had connection with the daughters of men, they gave birth to children: these were the great men of old days, the men of great name. – Genesis 6.4
And again there was war at Gath, where there was a very tall man, who had twenty-four fingers and toes, six fingers on his hands and six toes on his feet; he was one of the offspring of the Rephaim. – 2 Samuel 21.20
Fallen Angels & Demons
There are different variety of fallen angels and evil spiritual beings described in the Bible. God forewarns us about their presence, influence and intentions so that we may be aware of the kingdom of darkness.
That no advantage may be gained over us by Satan: for we are not ignorant of his devices. – 2 Corinthians 2.11
We know that when the devil had fallen from God grace, that a third of heaven went with him, so there is quite a mighty large army of darkness that fights against God’s army to this day.
And his tail draweth the third part of the stars of heaven, and did cast them to the Earth: and the dragon standeth before the woman that is about to be delivered, that when she is delivered he may devour her child. – Revelation 12.4

Lucifer
Lucifer is described as the angel of light in the Bible, until he fell because of his pride. He is known for his 5 ‘I Will’ statements in attempt to be like God.
How great is your fall from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! How are you cut down to the Earth, low among the dead bodies! 13. For you said in your heart;
- I will go up to heaven,
- I will make my seat higher than the stars of God;
- I will take my place on the mountain of the meeting-place of the gods,
- in the inmost parts of the north.
- I will go higher than the clouds;
- I will be like the Most High.
15. But you will come down to the underworld, even to its inmost parts. – Isaiah 14.12-15
In attempt to deceive his followers or the people of God; we are warned that he is able to appear as an angel of light, to appeal to mankind’s ‘good’ or ‘moral’ nature. We see this pattern in the Illuminati as its followers believe they receive more ‘light’ or enlightenment from their divine guide.
And it is no wonder; for even Satan himself is able to take the form of an angel of light. – 2 Corinthians 11.14
Satan
The term Satan means the opposer or accuser. It is a depiction that Satan is literally constantly accusing and opposing the people of God to try and put them down or attempt to get God to punish His people.
And the Satan said in answer to the Lord, Is it for nothing that Job is a god-fearing man? – Job 1.9
And he let me see Joshua, the high priest, in his place before the angel of the Lord, and the Satan at his right hand ready to take up a cause against him. – Zechariah 3.1
The devil has his own kingdom; the kingdom of darkness, of the fallen angels and every evil spirit. They oppose the kingdom of God and work to complete the objectives of the enemy.
And if Satan is at war with himself, and there is division in him, he will not keep his place but will come to an end. – Mark 3.26
Satan Plants His Seed on the Earth
I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your seed and her seed; he shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise his heel. – Genesis 3.15
And he who put them in the Earth is Satan; and the getting in of the grain is the end of the world; and those who get it in are the angels. – Matt 13.39
Satan Seeks to Steal, Kill and Destroy
The thief comes only to take the sheep and to put them to death: he comes for their destruction: I have come so that they may have life and have it in greater measure. – John 10.10
The Old Serpent
This is yet another term used to describe the devil, Satan. He is the old ancient serpent, the dragon of revelation and the snake from the garden of Eden.
And the great dragon was forced down, the old snake, who is named the Evil One and Satan, by whom all the Earth is turned from the right way; he was forced down to the Earth, and his angels were forced down with him. – Revelation 12.9
Beelzebub
Literally meaning ‘lord of the flies,’ this is yet another term used for the devil in reference to one of his characteristics, being the lord of things that are dead and rot.
But some of them said, By Beelzebub the prince of the demons casteth he out demons. – Luke 11.15
Different Names for the Devil
We know all these names are different terms for the same being as they all reference the head or king of the kingdom of darkness. The Devil has different names as every culture throughout ancient history had either feared knowing him, or worshipped him as a god. We know that he is the deceiver of every nation (Rev 12.9), and thus has a different name by many different people groups.
Abaddon
There is not much description given for this angel, other than he is the angel of destruction, or of the great deep, that will be released in the last days during the great tribulation period on Earth. He is used as a punishment for mankind for 5 months with his strange winged creatures.
They have over them as king the angel of the great deep: his name in Hebrew is Abaddon, and in the Greek language Apollyon. – Revelation 9.11
Demonology

Demonology is the study of demons. The term demon is another broad term used for various types of evil spirits. The Bible does not give a detailed description whether or not all demons are fallen angels or not. Although some do infer, through various passages that not all demons where angels (i.e. unclean spirits, familiar spirits, etc.).
Evil spirits
Evil spirits are seen doing evil or wicked works on Earth for some purpose. The often possessed people who were not right with God, or that where in sin. They typically where oppressive spirits that focused on tormenting people.
And while they were going away, there came to him (Jesus) a man without the power of talking, and with an evil spirit. – Matt 9.32
Then they took to him (Jesus) one with an evil spirit, who was blind and had no power of talking: and he made him well so that he had the power of talking and seeing. – Matthew 12.22
For he gave an order to the evil spirit to come out of the man. For frequently it would take a grip of him: – Luke 8.29
And while he was coming, he was pushed violently down and twisted by the evil spirit. – Luke 9.42
Unclean spirits
The word in Greek in reference for ‘unclean’ spirits, was akathartos which means impure (ceremonially) foul or unclean. It is typically thought to simply be another term used for evil or demonic spirit as they are described doing the same things and accomplishing the same types of actions, but we can see in revelation that the term seems to be used for a different type of being:
And he gave a loud cry, saying, Babylon the great has come down from her high place, she has come to destruction and has become a place of evil spirits, and of every unclean spirit, and a hole for every unclean and hated bird – Revelation 18.2
Familiar Spirits
This was a term used in the Old Testament in conjunction with witchcraft and spirit summoning. It was strictly forbidden to speak with familiar spirits as people did this for the purpose of divination (telling the future). Today it is not known what exactly the familiar spirits where, but there are several speculations:
- Modern witches and the new age movement will claim it was some sort of small animal witches had with them that was spiritually possessed.
- Other claim the familiar spirits where reference to a dead relative or demon that a medium would contact,
- Still others say it was the demon that is assigned to each person by the devil that they would talk to, i.e. the demon that was ‘familiar’ with that person.
Turn ye not unto them that have familiar spirits, nor unto the wizards; seek them not out, to be defiled by them: I am Jehovah your God. – Leviticus 19.31
And the soul that turneth unto them that have familiar spirits, and unto the wizards, to play the harlot after them, I will even set my face against that soul, and will cut him off from among his people. – Leviticus 20.6
Here we see that the familiar spirit seems to be something that someone has with them, but could still be interpreted as a contacted spirit:
A man also or a woman that hath a familiar spirit, or that is a wizard, shall surely be put to death: they shall stone them with stones; their blood shall be upon them. – Leviticus 20.27
Then said Saul unto his servants, Seek me a woman that hath a familiar spirit, that I may go to her, and inquire of her. And his servants said to him, Behold, there is a woman that hath a familiar spirit at En-dor. – 1 Samuel 28.7
Demonic Objectives & The Kingdom of Darkness
The prince of demons (Luke11.15) is known by Jesus to both have his purpose well defined, but also is well organized in his mandates and keeps his kingdom unified. There is no division in the kingdom of darkness as we see in:
But he (Jesus), knowing their thoughts, said unto them, Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation; and a house divided against a house falleth. Luk 11:18 And if Satan also is divided against himself, how shall his kingdom stand? because ye say that I cast out demons by Beelzebub. – Luke 11.17-18
All of the Primary duties and works of the kingdom of darkness come down to these three routines:
- Destruction
- Discouragement
- Distractions
Destruction
The Devils primary objectives are to steal, kill and destroy whatever he can of God and of His people. Demons will always seek to destroy the people and works of God, demons practice the work of their king, to steal, kill and destroy whatever they can that is of God.
The thief cometh not, but that he may steal, and kill, and destroy: I came that they may have life, and may have it abundantly. – John 10.10
As God’s children we know that if God is for us, then no one can be against us, meaning that God’s purposes will get accomplished.
What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who is against us? – Romans 8.31
Whatever is given over the enemy you can be sure they will destroy it or use it against you in every way possible.
Identify the Origin / Problem:
You can identify a person that is being destroyed spiritually, typically by their self inflicted behaviors. People doing things like living on drugs and living lifestyles of sinful behavior will eventually destroy themselves, if they continue down the same path. This doesn’t always mean they are being demonically driven, but are defiantly being demonically influenced. The media system does an excellent job being the medium for demonic influences, pushing people into sinful lifestyles.
Discouragement
The Devil will do whatever he can if he cannot destroy God’s works, to prevent or prolong it from happening for as long as possible. If nothing else he will try to interfere with what God is doing through His people. Demons will attempt to discourage God’s children and the works God has purposed to do through His children. However the devil can, he will try to keep God’s children from accomplishing the work or mission they are called to do;
Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. 8. For he that soweth unto his own flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth unto the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap eternal life. 9. And let us not be weary in well-doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not. – Galatians 6.7-9
For many deceivers are gone forth into the world, even they that confess not that Jesus Christ cometh in the flesh. This is the deceiver and the antichrist. 8. Look to yourselves, that ye lose not the things which we have wrought, but that ye receive a full reward. – 2 John 1.7
This discouragement may come in a person marriage, ministry, family or any other good thing God has created in a person’s life. Discouragement can be felt in any way: from great depressions, to the simplest or a subtle impatience with something, or the devil may try to make you feeling like something good you are doing is just a waste of time.
Now the snake was wiser (crafty) than any beast of the field which the Lord God had made – Genesis 3.1
Identify the Problem:
The devil wants you to feel like:
- Your marriage is a waste of time and will never get better
- God doesn’t care about you
- A little sin doesn’t matter, don’t worry about it
- This thing you’re doing for God, it will never matter
Deceit – The Liar
The Devil will use every lie he possible can to get you to believe in his evil devastation. If he can get you to believe something that is not true, he will have an advantage over you in your life and will continue to try to lead you into a deeper depression away from the truth. This is why it is so critical to know God’s truth, because if you are not founded in the ONE who IS truth (Jesus), any lie can eventually lead you astray.
Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father it is your will to do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and standeth not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father thereof. – John 8.44
Distractions
Demons will try to distract the people of God and the works of God- attempting to put barriers in front of anything they can. Any amount of time a demon can win over using distractions is time lost that could have been used to do something for God’s kingdom and for something good. They do everything they can to get God’s people to waste their time.
Distractions will come in a variety of forms;
- family
- sports
- video games
- friends
- world living
- luxury
It is not wrong to have any of these things in your life, the question is what are you spending the majority of your time on? Jesus said we should be storing our treasure up eternally in heaven, not on Earthly things where it eventually is destroyed. God’s children are call to build up His kingdom on earth and glorify Him in their life.
but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth consume, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: 21. for where thy treasure is, there will thy heart be also. – Matthew 6.20-21
Identify the Problem:
Most commonly we can identify someone is being distracted when they choose to only make excuses for the destructive behaviors or distractions in life rather than facing them. In other words if we are spending all of our time on temporary things, and not doing anything for eternal rewards, then we are wasting all of our time:
- ” I just don’t have time for ministry right now.”
- ” I can find anything to do for God.”
- ” I’m just to busy for ministry.”
The truth is we always have time for the things that we like to do! As God people we should always put God first in our lives. God can help us redeem the time, even though we lose time to lifestyles of sinful behavior or just plain distractions in our lives, God is able to do great & miraculous works in our lives so we may be used mightily for His purposes; and we are called to redeem the time.
redeeming the time, because the days are evil. – Ephesians 5.16
Prevention
The devil will do everything he can to prevent the people of the world from hearing about the things of God, to keep them from being saved. He uses any tactic possible to prevent God’s word from being understood by the unsaved.
And those by the way side are they that have heard; then cometh the devil, and taketh away the word from their heart, that they may not believe and be saved. – Luke 8.12
Perversion
Demons will corrupt everything that seems good and morally correct. The Devil masquerades as an angel of light and his ministers are agents of righteousness (2 Corin 11.14), they begin by making small and subtle changes in the good things that God created. Eventually over time things that were once good, are corrupted and no longer represent God original design.
For example marriage is God gift and design to keep a balanced society and fulfill the needs of both men and women. The devil steps in and corrupts the meaning of sexual relationships to make people feel as though sexual perversions like homosexuality or pornographic lifestyles are morally justifiable or sex before marriage is acceptable- which corrupts God’s good intentions and purposes for sexual sanctity in marriage, a representation of what was at one time good in that person’s life.
Identifying the Problem
People justify things that seems morally correct because either it benefits them directly or it ‘seems’ from their perspective synonymous with some other form of morality that they feel obligated to adhere to. i.e. Some people will justify sex before marriage because either they want to do it, or because they think it is morally right for people to freely do whatever they want with their bodies.
This is contrary to the truth of God’s plan for marriage which sacredly keeps two people bound and sexually satisfied, ‘and safe,’ with only one person in their life to prevent emotional collapse and decay of family morality (as we see that happen to many children in a high divorce rate society). The devil wants to corrupt and pervert every moral, social structure, family, boundary, government, Bible, religion, literally everything in the world. He knows if he can corrupt something that is good, and make it retain some of its ‘goodness,’ he owns it because not it is a lie, and he is the father of lies. Then he can use it to continue spreading his lies.
God Is Still in Control of Everything

Even though the devil may accuse God’s people and fight against everything good, he is still in submission to God. God is still in control of all things, even the enemies of all mankind. Nothing happens apart from God’s will. God is sovereign over all creation.
And God sent an evil spirit between Abimelech and the townsmen of Shechem; and the townsmen of Shechem were false to Abimelech; – Judges 9.23
Now the spirit of the Lord had gone from Saul, and an evil spirit from the Lord was troubling him. – 1 Samuel 16.14
And the Lord said to the Satan, See, I give all he has into your hands, only do not put a finger on the man himself. And the Satan went out from before the Lord. – Job 1.12
I am the giver of light and the maker of the dark; causing blessing, and sending troubles; I am the Lord, who does all these things. – Isaiah 45.7
Are not sparrows two a farthing? and not one of them comes to an end without your Father: – Matthew 10.29
who is able to go against his purpose? 20. … May the thing which is made say to him who made it, Why did you make me so? – Romans 9.19-20
