The Abrahamic religions is the group of all monotheistic faiths that identify their origins to the patriarch Abraham.
The Three largest Abrahamic religions based on number of religious followers are:
Beginning with Abraham, circa 2000 b.c., God has placed a special promise to the people of the world that through Abraham, that the people of the world might be blessed to know the true God. Abrahams descendant eventually became the Israelites, of the Hebrew community as they where lead by Moses circa 1500 b.c. Abraham was also the patriarch of the Arab nations. Christians believe that Judaism fulfillment came when Jesus Christ was born, and thus began Christianity.
Spread of the Faith in the World
Roughly 600 a.d. Mohammad of Arabia claimed to have had special revelation thus beginning the Islamic faith.
Various other faiths and beliefs have spawned form the cultures and beliefs set in motion by these religions, but they remain the 3 primarily dominate religions of the Abrahamic faith.
Each of these religions recognize Abraham as their founding father or patriarch of their beliefs;
- All Jewish traditions trace back their traditions to Abraham as their national and religious patriarch. The Torah records all lineage of the Jewish people back to Abraham.
- The Christian Holy Bible says if you are a Christian you are “Abrahams seed.” (Gal 3.29)
- Muslims have a religious term “Milat Ibrahim,” meaning ‘the faith of Abraham’ of whom they believe their religion originated from.
Even though each of the religions claim a direct correlation to Abraham, each differs in doctrines, practices and philosophies. This is why it is important to understand each of these belief systems in order to determine their true origin and meaning.
